There have been small problems on the RootsWeb mailing lists this week. As administrator of two lists, I have tried to fix them on my end only to find out there are bigger issues a foot.
Yesterday, I couldn’t log into the mailing list. Others were writing to say they weren’t receiving messages they sent to the list. I sent a message to the list and after about eight hours, it was returned “Undelivered”.
Checking the RootWeb home page today, I found the following:
We are experiencing some temporary Rootsweb site problems.
We apologize for any inconvenience this might cause.
Our development and web operations teams are working on the problem and
we will have it resolved as quickly as possible.
Thank-you for your patience.
Apparently, the issues are bigger than what RootsWeb initially thought because yesterday’s message simple stated they were closed for maintenance. Today, there’s a larger message (the one above).
Any messages sent to mailing lists will be returned to sender, so it’s wise to wait until the home page gives the all clear before resuming normal activities.
