Column: Double-dating with Isaac Newton

Between today and Saturday, my genealogy column, Roots to the Past, is available in the following Atlantic Canada newspapers:

Wednesday: The Lunenburg County Progress Bulletin (Lunenburg County)

Saturday: The Citizen (Amherst)

Saturday: Times & Transcript (Moncton)

Title: Double-dating with Isaac Newton

Snippet: Over the Christmas holiday, birthday wishes circulated on the Internet. I saw them on blogs, Twitter and Facebook. The post stated, “On this day long ago, a child who would transform the world was born. Happy birthday, Isaac Newton, born December 25, 1642.”

As someone who loves science, my first instinct was…to prove if it was fact or fiction.

I searched using google and found Sir Isaac Newton was actually born January 4, 1643 at Woolsthorpe-by-Colsterworth, United Kingdom. Needless to say, I was irked by the inaccurate information splattered across the Internet in the name of science.
