Column: Underwood was Well-known in Genealogy Circles

Between today and Saturday, my genealogy column, Roots to the Past, is available in the following Atlantic Canada newspapers:

Tuesday: The Kings County Record (Sussex)

Wednesday: The Lunenburg County Progress Bulletin

Thursday: The Western Star (Corner Brook)

Saturday: The Citizen (Amherst)

Saturday: Times & Transcript (Moncton)

Title: Underwood was Well-known in Genealogy Circles

Snippet: A distinct voice faded from the genealogy world earlier this year. Long-time genealogist, historian and researcher Julian ‘Jay’ Paul Underwood passed away January 8, 2014 at the age of fifty-five. Many will recognise his name from genealogy mailing lists and other online forums. He was very active on several across Atlantic Canada.

Like many others, my first contact with Underwood came after posting a query on a mailing list. He replied with either specific information or a source I could check to see if what I sought was there; it was so long ago I can’t recall the exact details. Eventually we developed a genealogy-relationship, one in which if we discovered information or a website we thought the other would be interested in knowing about, we’d pass it on.

. . . To read more, pick up one of the above noted newspapers.
