Column: Atlantic Canada Genealogy Project

Between today and Saturday, my genealogy column, Roots to the Past, is available in the following Atlantic Canada newspapers:

Tuesday: The Kings County Record (Sussex)

Wednesday: The Lunenburg County Progress Bulletin

Thursday: The Western Star (Corner Brook)

Saturday: The Citizen (Amherst)

Saturday: Times & Transcript (Moncton)

Title: Atlantic Canada Genealogy Project

Snippet: While searching for information on my mother’s side of the family—the branch that settled in Newfoundland—I stumbled upon the Atlantic Canada Genealogy Project. At first glance I didn’t think I’d find anything related to the Isle of Newfoundland because the first page stated the “core of this project is related to descendants of the migration of families from Yorkshire, England in the late 1700s, to what is now Nova Scotia and New Brunswick”.

Before I left the site however, I checked the surnames to see if by chance I could find one related to me. To my surprise, there was. Jessie Matheson Brewer of Epworth, NL, had died in Cumberland County, NS in 2006. The site provided pieces of information I didn’t have. Like all information found on the Internet, before I take it as fact, I’ll check other sources, primary sources if possible, to confirm the data.

. . . To read more, pick up one of the above noted newspapers.
